Meditation is at the heart of the Buddhist way of life. It is basically a method for understanding and working on our own mind.

We begn with simple breathing meditations to help 'pacify' the turbulence and stress within and to develop more mental peace.  We then begin to progress to identifying our own negative mental states, i.e., our anger, stress, anxiety or depression. These are known in Buddhism as 'delusions'.

By understanding the nature and function of these delusions, we can begin to identify which states of mind make us happy and which cause pain and mental discomfort.

Our own deep inner wisdom grows through this investigation, as we learn how to develop those peaceful and positive mental states of mind that bring happiness.

Out of meditation we try through practice to maintain the positive or virtuous minds we have developed and as a result we become more able to use  wisdom to solve the problems of our daily life.

As our mind becomes more positive our actions naturally become more healthy and constructive, which naturally leads to our lives becoming more satisfying and meaningful.
