Heart Jewel
This practice is the heart essence of Kadampa Buddhism. In the first part we visualize our Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongkhapa and make prayers and requests to purify negativity, accumulate merit and receive blessings. This prepares our mind for a meditation on Stages of the Path to Enlightenment. After the meditation we make prayers to our Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugdän. Through this we can overcome obstacles to our practice and create favorable conditions so that we can nurture and increase our pure Dharma realizations.

Journey to Enlightenment
Going for Refuge and Becoming a Bodhisattva
with Kadam Morten
at Chakrasambara Buddhist Center
322 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY
$30 for the day / free for cardholders
Enlightenment is a state of perfect freedom, compassion and wisdom. It is a state of being that we can tap into at any moment and that eventually we can attain and make available to everyone else. In this course we will learn the practice of going for refuge to the enlightened state, and how to live the life of a Bodhisattva, someone who is journeying towards enlightenment. In both cases the emphasis will be on integrating these orientations into our daily life, so that they inform everything we do. In this way our own life becomes a joyful path to enlightenment, and one in which we are continuously tuned into the inspiration, guidance and sheer transformative power of the enlightened mind. Everyone is welcome.
The course will conclude with a profound and beautiful ritual where we can formally go for refuge to Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, and receive the Bodhisattva vow, in which we decide gradually to make our life the life of a Bodhisattva. The meaning of these events will be explained within the course itself. Everyone is welcome to attend, and to receive the blessings of the ritual at their own level.
This will be Kadam Morten's final course before leaving for England for the summer. The refuge and Bodhisattva ceremony is a concluding celebration of what we have accomplished together this year.
